How do you get my fingerprint/thumbprint impression?           

Once you have placed your order, we send you a specialized impression kit with instruction on how to take an impression. You take an imprint of whatever it is you would like to have set in silver or gold (fingerprints are the most popular, but it can be almost anything). After you mail it back, we use that mould to create your unique item.
 
What is the best Finger to use to make an impression?
That is totally up to you & the size you prefer, the charm will be aprox 10% smaller than your actually print, and is made from the impression you take.  If you would like a smaller print, go with the pinky, a large print go with the thumb.  We do a lot of couples and the choose to do their ring fingers which are a great shape & size.  Best advice is to take an impression of which ever digit you decide, but from each side as often (but not always) our print is deeper on our non-dominant hand - send them both in & we can decide on the best print to use.

If I want to order multiple items do I need to make multiple impressions?

All I need is one good impression and I cast numerous pieces of jewelry from that mould.

What if I lose my charm, do I have to the impression over again or do you keep that on file?

We will keep your print on file for a year so re-ordering becomes faster andcheaper.  If you want to re-order or order another piece of jewelry using an impression already on file please email order@silverfingerprints.ca 

I love my necklace! I want to order one for my Mom, do I need to do a new impression?

We will keep your print on file for a year so re-ordering becomes faster and cheaper.  We have many clients who have loved their jewelry so much they ordered all kinds of pieces for family members and friends after receiving theirs. We would gladly make any piece of jewelry from our collection using an impression already on file.   Note the price is cheaper as we do not send out a new impression kit.

How old does my child need to be to take an impression?

There is no rule as to what age you can take an impression, however when we are born our fingerprints are not fully developed, the impression of an infant is much fainter than that of an older child. We see better results with children 18 months or older,  but that’s not to say a newborns print won’t be fantastic. Regardless of a deep impression, the shape, the dimples and the print are all the makings for a great charm.  If you are really wanting the print to be deep we can send out a different kind of impression kit for infants please let us know if you are ordering for an infant. Toes work well as an alternative.  Another option is to get a new one done each year and watch the growth of the finger, and the deepening of the impressions.

Can I pay by credit card?

We accept all credit cards payment using PayPal as our merchant services.  You do not need a paypal account to make a purchase and can use any credit card to pay or you can pay from your bank account using paypal.

How does paying by cheque or money order work?

Once I receive your cheque or money order I send you an impression kit.  I deposit the cheque at that time, after the cheque clears and I have received your impression back I make your jewelry and then send it to you. If your cheque does not clear there is a $40 charge.

Do you sell in any stores?

We are currently available with a few stores in B.C check out our News & Events tab. If you are a retailer or know a shop were we should be sold in let us know: contact@silverfingerprints.ca

My Grandfather is in hospice, if he passes before I get the impression kit can I still get his impression after he is gone?

Make sure to let us know and we will ship the impression kit out ASAP by air.  Impressions can be taken even after our loved one has passed but does need to be done quickly. 

How long does it take to get my order made?

Once we receive your order we mail out the impression kit, once you receive it and make your impression you mail it back to us. After we receive the impression we start work.  Depending on demand at the time of your order it can take 1-3 weeks to complete. Typically during a non-holiday period we have a 2 week turn around. If you are ordering for Mothers Day or Christmas give us as much time as possible.

Do you offer refunds or exchanges?

Please see our refund policy on the order page ** However on our fingerprint Impressions line & all custom orders there are no refunds or exchanges.
 How do I care for my fingerprint impression jewelry?
Treat your impression jewellery with care.  We oxidize each print to bring out the fine details; however the oils in your hands will rub this off if handled excessively.  Pure silver is softer than sterling and should be worn with care it will naturally mark and scar with time and wear.  We don’t recommend showering or swimming while wearing your jewellery as chemicals can react with silver. Cherish your jewelry and it will last many lifetimes.   To clean use a soft silver polishing cloth (available in most grocery stores), please do not use jewelry cleaner as it may remove the oxidization.

I have seen other companies that use clay to get the impression why do you not?

After years of developing and testing our methods and different products we came up with our specialized impression kit.  Our kit gives us the highest quality and results.  We don’t use the clay to capture impressions as it can be very difficult to use and does not give as deep of an impression as we like to have.   By using the mould we are able to offer a greater range of products and the mould can be re-used over and over again.   If you would like to use the clay we will send that to you, we will do it, we just don’t prefer it.

Can I have a charm double sided with a different print on each side?

Yes you can, it is still the cost of 2 separate prints as we use the same amount of silver to do this.  It is best when done in a shape ie: circle and a print on either side.  Or a heartbead with a fingerprint impression on either side looks great.

CanI have my daughter’s name and birth date written on the back of her print?

Absolutely! As long as it fits we can do it. 

Do you really make them by hand?

We make all impression jewellery by hand, everything from the casting to the finishing we do it all with our hands.  Which means your final product may not look like it was manufactured, it will look unique and organic no 2 pieces are ever the same.

I’m buying this as a gift, how does that work?

We can do this a couple of ways, you can buy a gift certificate and the recipient can pick out their own product.  Or we can send you a gift wrapped impression kit with a note and instructions on how it works and what it is.

Do you let me know when you have received my impression back and have started work on it?

We feel it is important that you stay informed on the makings of your jewelry. We will send you an email when we have received your impression back and another email once it has been shipped.

Do you ship overseas?

Absolutely, if you can get mail we can ship to you.   However the time it takes to get to you is dependant on the postal service in both countries.

Do you do home parties?

If you live in the lowermainland we can have a representative come to your home or place of choice and do a show.  We offer the host of the party 5% back in product as a thank you for hosting. We bring a full range of fingerprint, silver chains, and our jewelry collections.

Can you ship overnight to a funeral home?

Yes, there is an extra cost to this to cover shipping and handling but it can be done and makes for an incredible keepsake.

Payment Methods:
We accept all major credit cards including, Visa, MasterCard, And American Express through PayPal. Please be sure to provide your exact billing addressand telephone number - the address and phone number that credit card bank has onfile for you. Incorrect information may cause a delay in processing your order.

PayPal automatically encrypts your confidential information in transit from your computer to ours using the Secure Sockets Layer protocol (SSL) with an encryption key length of 128-bits (the highest level commercially available).

Sales Tax Information:
All items shipped to destinations in Canada are subject to Canadian Goods and Services Tax ("GST") at 5% or Harmonized Sales Tax ("HST")at 13% / 15%. Customers of B.C. will be charged B.C. PST at 7% until July 1st 2010 when HSTcomes into effect.

Aly Dahl Designs does not charge sales tax on any orders shipped out of Canada.

Returns:
Due to their personalized nature, special order pieces and impression jewellery are commissioned pieces of artwork and are not returnable or refundable.   As we make each piece by hand mistakes can be made.  Please inspect your piece for any spelling errors as soon as it arrives.

From our non-personalized collection of jewellery we offer an exchange of equal or lesser value if you are not satisfied with your purchase. Shipping is the responsibility of the purchaser. Shipping costs will not be reimbursed. If you would like to make an exchange please email contact@silverfingerprints.ca within 30 days of shipping date.

*Special note regarding fingerprint impression jewellery

As we cast directly from the impression you take, the finished product will only be as great as the impression we receive. If we receive and impression we do not feel we can use we will contact you about getting a new impression.  Some young children do not have fully developed fingerprints and the impression will not be very deep resulting in a poor impression.  We are not responsible for a poor impression that results in a poor casting.
